Yo, question

(Because, let's face it. It's faster and easier to ask here than it is to ask anyone around here in person except for Doug and maaaaybe Mr Haller.)

Say I wanted to find someone from, I don't know, sixteen and a half or seventeen years ago? I don't know their name. I don't know what they looked like or anything else, other than that they were female and weren't a Morlock.

So, how do I find them? Check and see if anyone thought about lodging a missing person's report or birth certificate about a mutant baby with a fucked up tongue? (How the hell do you get at those, anyway? Do you need, like, a warrant from the police?) Or would social services know? Hell, can I get at social services to find out? I mean, the records are less than 18 years old and that suggests that they'd be locked up on account of probably belonging to a minor.

Will have to use my powers to disguise myself as a freaking New York City social worker lady to get in and use their computers and shit to find out about this stuff? Because I don't really want to disguise myself as a New York City social worker lady.



And, for those of you wondering, Annalee's had her hearing. She's in a mental hospital now on account of being too crazy for a trial and they're hoping she won't remember to brainwash people into letting her go right now. Some of the old Morlocks who are around from ...before, they're real shook up about it but they're too scared of upworlders coming back down the tunnels to try and do anything about it, either.

Big things. Like the Morlocks all getting killed. Or everyone you ever knew before you turned 8.

She could easily make you forget about a baby.

X-Factor's kind of occupied looking for Vanessa, but us Snow Valley folks might be able to help. You're looking for where you come from, right? I know how that goes - I didn't know myself about my own family until I was sixteen or so. Come by the office on Monday and we'll see what we have to start with.

How much is it gonna cost? I figure, you guys don't work for free and, look, I can get money, it's just that it takes a while to pull much together, since I'm helping out some of the old Morlocks with food and stuff, since I'm the closest thing to an upworlder they'll deal with.

If she had you in a hospital, or if she came into contact with official people about you in any way, there'll be a record. Annalee couldn't make that go away.

I know that if you're in social services they have to do everything realistically possible to find your family and get you back with them before declaring you a permanent ward of the state. And that if you're a minor getting at records, especially your own, is nearly impossible.

I know that they spent a long time grilling me on possible family members and then going through my dad's stuff trying to find some family or my mom or something. Took a couple years, but I got declared a permanent ward, so I guess they didn't find anything.

Yeah, I thought so. So I figure that, whoever the people I'm looking for are, they didn't wind up on Social Service's radar while I was around, because those guys would probably notice if I kid went missing.

Well...as overworked and underpaid as they are, yeah they would probably notice. I guess it's possible depending on the circumstances that they wouldn't, but it seems unlikely.
